Biography
My love of art started when I was about six years old, bored and sitting on a stool in my grandma's cafe after school a when a customer patiently taught me how to draw a rose bud. The memory is crystal clear and the moment was like the golden (in this case No. 2 soft lead pencil) key that opened the door for my love of art. Can you be enthralled when you are six years old? I think you can.
I was encouraged all through my childhood to keep drawing and painting and won my first art contest in High School. From that time have had the honor to win many awards in both amateur and professional categories. Best of Show, many blue ribbons and the Grumbacher Bronze Medallion are my top awards in the category of oil on canvas.
Working in copper wire came the day when I knew I had crocheted every possible afghan, scarf and hat known to man, woman and child. At least, so I was told ever so kindly...I had been making some jewelry just for myself at that time so I had some wire, stones and a crochet hook.....and it just evolved slowly into the work I do today. My love of sculpture was also inspirational.
I never achieved a degree in art but have had many college and private classes in oil, drawing and clay sculpture.
I was a member for many years of the Southwest Washington Art Association, recently Past Vice-President of For the Love of Art Organization in Washington State and am currently a volunteer and member of the Tubac Center for the Arts. I reside nearby in Rio Rico, Arizona.
