Encaustics

Encaustic is the ancient technique of painting with hot wax. In this two-day workshop, we will first collage with lots of paper to obtain a strong and textured surface to paint on.

The second day, we will cover the surface with hot melted wax. After the wax has hardened we will carve into the wax, then rub the surface with a special mixture to enhance the carved lines.

This is a fun and rewarding art form.

Mold Making and Resin

"LETS RESINATE!"

Bring a few small simple objects & I will show you how to use my favorite mold-making product - "POYO" putty. We will then use both a transparent and a bone colored resin. Next, we will make the object look like ivory, bone, or metal. If time permits, we will turn it into a pendant or charm for jewelry.

Biography

Born in Long Beach, California, I have lived most of my life in northern California, and moved to Tubac in March of 2008. I attended the Academy of Art in San Francisco, and the College of Marin/Kentfield. I graduated BFA in Ceramic Sculpture in 1980 at California College of the Arts in Oakland.

I have experimented with too many forms of art to mention. This need to experiment led me to Encaustics about six years ago.
