Biography

Kaye Guerin’s art and life intertwine in a story of adventure and exploration. Every experience became a journey of understanding, from living in new cultures to traveling across vast spaces to explore historic trails. In the midst of a life lived richly in the moment, carved deeply by tragedy, love, humor and wonder, her imagination grew wings. Always seeking the unusual and extraordinary, she painted miles of canvas showing sensitive portraits, landscapes and still lifes. Her Western bronze sculptures are alive with energy and movement. The Frye Art Museum in Seattle showed her Russian paintings, the Charles Russell Museum carried her bronze series of the Lewis and Clark Expedition, and numerous galleries have sold her work.

Today her work is in private collections across the United States, including the Jonas Salk collection. She is a dedicated teacher and pursues her art on a daily basis, ever alive to the magic of inspiration that is the hallmark of her work. She teaches and lectures on painting and sculpture, covering such subjects as figure sculpture, how a bronze is made, how to sculpt in terra cotta, how to understand color, composition and the portrait.Although she has studied with great living masters, she has also studied the great artists of the past extensively in her lifelong pursuit of art.

As lifetime artist, and as one who has experienced so many aspects of art, I have come to the conclusion that sculpture lends itself most easily to individual expression of one's inner vision. The joy of working with clay is universal and timeless. Humans of every culture , every time and every place on earth have molded clay, and yet the appeal of this comes as a surprise to those who try it. My purpose as a teacher is to help you learn to visualize, then create your vision in this solid form. Many of my students have gone beyond what they believed was possible for them, and in a very short time. I tell my students, "Be prepared to amaze yourself."Sculpture is very helpful to painters, also, giving the ability to understand solid form. Kaye Guerin, artist statement/sculpture.
