Biography
Several years ago, Diana Tollenaar discovered fine gourd art after reading an article in a local publication. She is self-taught.
Diana creates her gourd art using several different gourds that become her total vision upon completion. Her work is strongly influenced by the Southwestern Culture. Diana’s favorite snake gourd shapes led her to create her signature Spirit people. She also creates Masks, Bowls, Miniatures, Storytellers and Angels. She uses wood burning techniques, and several mediums including acrylic paint, inks, gold leafing, inlaying, and metallic powders. She finishes all her work with several coats of clear acrylic.
Many pieces are embellished with turquoise, gemstones, silver, pewter, beads, leather, feathers, cabochons, fur and other findings.
Diana’s gourd creations have received several awards and has patrons nationwide. Her goal is to create an awareness that Gourd Art can be considered Fine Art.
